HACU Member Advisory--November 23, 2004

December 3 deadline approaches

For USDA-HSI Fellows Program

December 3 is the application deadline for the USDA-HSI 2005 Faculty Fellows Program. Please relay this HACU Member Advisory to appropriate program directors, senior staff and faculty and encourage their applications to this important U.S. Department of Agriculture program for Hispanic-Serving Institutions.

The USDA-HSI 2005 Faculty Fellows Program was established in 1998 as part of the USDA-HACU Leadership Group’s efforts to strengthen USDA partnerships with participating institutions and to enhance the capacity of their programs and staff.

This year’s program dates are June 27-August 5, 2005. The Fellows Program offers faculty and staff affiliated with HSIs the opportunity to work and study with USDA and other government staff during the summer in Washington, D.C., and other locations as appropriate. The Fellowship also provides participants access to research and funding opportunities for their students. The Fellowship provides a travel, housing and per diem stipend for a minimum of two weeks and up to six weeks in Washington, D.C. In addition to meeting with USDA personnel, Fellows establish contact with other agencies such as the U.S. Department of Education, National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health and National Endowment for the Humanities.

Applications and supporting materials must be received by Friday, December 3, 2004.  For more information, visit http://www.hsi.usda.gov/, or contact Maria Goldberg, Executive Director, USDA-HSI National Program at (202) 720-6506 (mgoldberg@ars.usda.gov).
