HACU President’s Awards of Excellence presented at the Power Lunch

HACU presented its Award of Excellence during Sunday’s Power Lunch of the 26th Annual Conference to Ambassador Ramón Gil-Casares Satrústegui, recognizing the Embassy of Spain in Washington, D.C., a HACU-member Institution and individuals for their work in championing Hispanic higher education success.

The individuals presented with awards were Chancellor Charlie Reed of California State University, Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois, and Council for Opportunity in Education President Arnold L. Mitchem.

Felix Matos Rodríguez, president of HACU-member Institution Eugenio Maria de Hostos Community College, City University of New York, accepted an award on the university’s behalf.

“This award is meaningful because it reflects the accomplishments of our students, particularly the large number of Latino students that we have helped in their educational journey during the past 45 years,” said Hostos President Félix V. Matos Rodríguez. “Hostos has had the highest percentage of Latino students and the highest percentage of Latino faculty of any college in New York City, New York State, and the northeastern region of the United States.”

Ramón Gil-Casares Satrústegui, Ambassador of Spain in the U.S., accepted the Special Leadership Award on behalf of the Embassy of Spain.
