The number of Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) jumped
14.5 percent between 2010 and 2011. They now total 356 HSIs, enrolling 56
percent of all Hispanic students in higher education, according to an HSI Fact
Sheet just released by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities’
(HACU) Office of Policy Analysis and Information. The fact sheet is based on
the most recent enrollment data (2011-2012 academic year) available through the
U.S. Department of Education’s Integrated Postsecondary Data System (IPEDS).
The data and lists released are those of HSIs that meet the
enrollment criterion of the federal definition of an HSI (25.0% Full-Time
Equivalent Hispanic undergraduate students). For the reporting period, there
were also 250 emerging HSIs, with Hispanic enrollments between 15 and 24.9%.
The fact sheet also includes demographics and academic attainment about
Hispanics.
