HACU Statement on Supreme Court Ruling on Fisher v. University of Texas

Following is a statement from the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) President and CEO Antonio R. Flores on the Supreme Court ruling released today on the case of Fisher v. University of Texas. The Supreme Court’s 7-1 decision (with Justice Kagan recusing herself from deliberations) remands the case to the lower court.

“We are encouraged by the Court’s reaffirmation of the earlier Bakke and Grutter decisions that recognize diversity as a legitimate educational objective and a compelling state interest. We continue to stand with the University of Texas as it prepares for the strict scrutiny of its admissions procedures by the appeals court as required by the Supreme Court’s decision.”
