Speakers announced for HACU’s Town Hall on Hispanic STEM education in Chicago, Oct. 28

 

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) has announced the speakers of its Town Hall Meeting, taking place Oct. 28, 2013 from 3:30 - 5 p.m. in Chicago, Ill. during the associations premier conference on Hispanic higher education.

The HACU Town Hall Meeting “Building Hispanic Participation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM),” will feature a panel discussion on the current state of Hispanic STEM education and potential impact on national competitiveness in the global marketplace, followed by a question and answer session with the audience.

The panel moderator will be Emir José Macari, Ph.D., dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science at California State University (CSU), Sacramento. Macari was awarded the White House/NSF Presidential Faculty Fellowship in 1992 and served as dean of the College of Science and Technology at the University of Texas at Brownsville before his appointment at CSU Sacramento.

Panel member Maria Cardona is a principal at the Dewey Square Group (DSG), the founder of Latinovations, and a CNN/CNN en Español political contributor. Cardona has more than two decades of experience in government, politics, public relations and community affairs as a public policy advocate and political strategist.

Panel member Mark B. Rosenberg, Ph.D., fifth president of Florida International University (FIU) and the first FIU faculty member appointed to the office, has more than 35 years of higher education experience. Rosenberg served as chancellor for the Board of Governors of the State University System of Florida, is the founder of the FIU Latin American and Caribbean Center and is the founding dean of the College of Urban and Public Affairs.
