HACU Member Advisory

August 16, 2013

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities is partnering with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Knowledge in the Public Interest in a unique online event: The Challenge on Academic Advising -- Think Big, Aim High: Crowd-sourcing new concepts and models of advising in higher education, August 19 – 28.

The Challenge on Academic Advising will identify and highlight innovative academic advising strategies, practices, and policies with a track record of improving student success or the potential to do so.

We hope that you will participate in the Challenge on Academic Advising in one or more of the following ways:
  • Submit your advising innovations through a simple, online form.
  • Read about the innovations and strategies.
  • Rate the innovations based on their noteworthiness, supporting evidence, and adaptability to other locations.

A number of submissions will be selected by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to be showcased at the upcoming Post-Secondary Convening in Seattle WA in September.

Important Dates: Week of August 19: Submit innovations on the Momentum/Challenge on Academic Advising site http://momentum.edthemes.org

August 25 - 28: Review and rate submissions. You don't have to submit - informed readers and raters play a key part in the challenge!

The Challenge on Academic Advising is an exciting opportunity for individuals across the country to share effective advising models that others could adapt as they strive to help students persist, progress, and complete college.

We encourage you to participate in the event and to give momentum to the power of advising in higher education across the nation. Questions? Contact Lisa Levinson.
