HACU's Annual Conference featured presentation of awards at its Power Lunch

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities' 27th Annual conference featured five HACU Awards of Excellence presentations during its Power Lunch on October 27th. The HACU Awards of Excellence included recognition of individuals, HACU member institutions and partners recognized for exceptional work and contributions to HACU’s mission.

The following individuals accepted awards at the Power Lunch:

  • Salme H. Steinberg, president emerita of Northeastern Illinois University accepted The President's Award of Excellence.
  • James M. Rosser, president of California State University, Los Angeles accepted The Lifelong Leadership Award.
  • U.S. Rep. Luis V. Gutierrez accepted, via a pre-recorded video, The Exemplary Policy/Advocacy Leadership Award.
  • Lester Monts, University of Michigan's senior vice provost of academic affairs accepted The Outstanding Associate HACU-Member Institution Award on behalf of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
  • Andrew C. Sund, president of St. Augustine College accepted The Outstanding Hispanic-Serving Institution HACU-member Award on behalf of St. Augustine College.

Jorge A. Cabellero, Deloitte Tax National and Diversity and Inclusion Leader presented The Jorge Caballero Student Leadership Award to Bernardo Ross a student at Texas A&M University, College Station.

The Convener for the Power Lunch was HACU Governing Board member Rita Cepeda, Chancellor San José/Evergreen Community College District. Power Lunch sponsors recognized included Deloitte, The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Office of Inclusion and the Ford Motor Company Fund.
