Request for your institution’s support for Perkins Loan program extension

The United States Congress has allowed the Perkins Loan program authorization to expire as of September 1, 2015. This valuable program has provided low-cost loans to college students with demonstrated financial need, and is strongly supported across the full spectrum of American higher education.

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) supports efforts to extend the program through Fiscal Year 2016. The Higher Education Extension Act of 2015 (H.R. 3594) bill has been introduced in Congress to achieve this goal and an effort is underway to include this legislative language in the final appropriations bill for FY 2016 funding. We encourage your support of HR 3594.

HACU is collaborating on an effort by the American Council on Education (ACE) to garner support from institutions that would like to be listed on a support letter for the legislation. Click here for a PDF of the draft sign-on letter being circulated in the higher education sector to demonstrate the wide support for the program.

If you are interested in having your institution listed on the letter, please send your request via email to DCGR@hacu.net. The deadline is Thursday, November 19, 2015, no later than 3 p.m. Eastern Time (ET), 2 p.m. Central (CT), or noon Pacific Time (PT).
