HACU hosts California Hispanic-Serving Institutions Summit

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) will convene a California Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) Summit on Oct. 29, 2017, from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront.

The recent California Higher Education Funding Proposal introduced in the California state legislature will be the main topic of discussion. Featured panelists include Calif. Assembly Members Monique Limón and Kevin McCarty, The Education Trust's Director of Higher Education Policy Tiffany Jones and Los Angeles Mission College President Monte E. Perez. Presentations will focus on the following related topics: higher education legislation and budget overview, historical context and research prospects, and support and advocacy, followed by a question and discussion session.

The event is by invitation only and will bring together college and university presidents, administrators, faculty and staff to discuss higher education funding for underserved students and opportunities to build advocacy and support for the proposal. The intent of the proposal is to significantly reduce the educational attainment gap of underserved students by providing supplementary funds exclusively for targeted support services and programs.
