National Hispanic higher education award

presented to Florida International University

 

MIAMI, Florida – The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) today presented its 2004 Outstanding HACU Member Institution Award to Florida International University for championing Hispanic higher education excellence.

 

“HACU applauds the Florida International University, a Hispanic-Serving Institution that has proven a dynamic leader in research, outreach and service to Hispanics and to an extraordinarily diverse national and international community of learners,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores.

 

The national award was presented to Florida International University during HACU’s 18th Annual Conference, under way through Tuesday in Miami, Florida.

 

HACU represents more than 350 colleges and universities that collectively serve more than two-thirds of all Hispanic higher education students in the United States, as well as an international membership of leading higher education institutions throughout Latin America and in Spain.

 

Florida International University, internationally renowned for research, teaching and diversity, is one of the nation’s top-ranked public universities. Florida International University’s Latin American and Caribbean Center (LACC) has been recognized as one of the finest programs of its type in the world. The LACC’s Summit of the Americas Center is dedicated to strengthening hemispheric trade and commerce. The university’s affiliated Cuban Research Center is the only academic center in the United States devoted exclusively to the study of Cuba and Cuban Americans.

 

With a diverse student enrollment that is more than 50 percent Hispanic, Florida International University also serves an international student body that represents more than 130 countries.
