"WASHINGTON, D.C. — Substantial new funding for teacher technology initiatives is now available for regional or state consortia that include higher education institutions. HACU urges member Hispanic-Serving Institutions with education departments to apply for Fiscal 2001 Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to Use Technology (PT3) grants. The deadline for application is February 22.

These competitive U.S. Department of Education grants are authorized under Title III of the Improving America's School Act of 1994. These grants support innovative teacher preparation program improvements developed by consortia composed of higher education institutions, state agencies, school districts, nonprofit organizations and others who join forces to develop well-prepared, technology-proficient educators.

Three types of PT3 grants are available: capacity building grants averaging $135,000 for first-year support; implementation grants providing three years of support averaging $390,000 each year, and catalyst grants providing three years of support averaging $640,000. Visit www.ed.gov/teachtech for more information.

A new video on the PT3 application process is available by email request to PT3Video@fleishman.com. An interactive teleconference on the PT3 program and application process is scheduled at 11 a.m. EST and 4 p.m. EST on January 31 and again at 11 a.m. EST and 4 p.m. EST on February 1.
