Conference Roundtable focuses on Collaboration for Hispanic higher education success

San Antonio, TX - The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) will host an important roundtable discussion Monday, October 30, from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m.during its 20th Annual Conference at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio.

Scheduled to present are:
• Dr. Victor Arredondo Alvarez, Secretario de Educación y Cultura, Gobierno del Estado de Veracruz, Mexico
• Dr. Lic. Miguel Angel Martinez Espinosa, Secretario de Educación, Gobierno del Estado de Jalisco, Mexico
• Dr. Eugene Garcia, Vice President, University-School Partnerships, Arizona State University
• Dr. Wilfredo Laboy, Superintendent, Lawrence Public Schools, Massachusetts, and
• Dr. Diana Natalicio, President, University of Texas at El Paso

The panelists will discuss the main challenges and opportunities faced by Hispanic-Serving School Districts (HSSDs) and Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), as well as other HACU-member institutions, in their efforts to increase collaboration for greater Hispanic student success.

The issue of teacher shortages will be emphasized with a view to creating new options for the recruitment of Hispanic teachers from abroad, while at the same time making greater efforts to expand and strengthen teacher education programs at HACU-member institutions to enhance the supply and quality of teachers.

This session is presented as part of HACU’s launching of an HSSD affiliate category this fall.
