HACU to host 5th Annual Latino/a Higher Education Leadership Institute
“Passing the Baton to the Next Generation of Leaders”

San Antonio, TX – The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) will host its 5th Annual Latino/a Higher Education Leadership Institute on Saturday, October 28, 2006, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas, as part of its 20th Annual Conference.

This leadership development initiative promotes leadership across HSIs and other 2/4-year institutions.  It is a dynamic forum where early, mid and top level administrators/leaders interact with one another, network and explore strategies for making higher education institutions more responsive to the needs of under-represented students.

This year’s theme recognizes the large number of impending Latino/a retirements and focuses on the need to refill the pipeline, and to “pass the baton” to the next generation of Latino/a faculty, staff and administrators.  Since the theme changes annually, participants from previous year’s institutes are welcome.

The topics to be covered are Latino/a Leadership; Institutional Change; Latino Higher Education Policy Agenda; Student Access, Retention & Success; and Career Development.

Confirmed presenters include:
• President Emeritus Tomas Arciniega, CSU-Bakersfield
• President Cha Guzman, Palo Alto Community College, Texas
• President Erlinda Martinez, Santa Ana Community College, CA
• President Christine Johnson, Denver Community College, CO
• Francisco Rodriguez, Los Consumnes River College, CA
