HACU executive director of legislative affairs presents at Northern Essex Community College

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities staff member John Aguilar will speak at the Superintendents, Principals, and Guidance Directors Breakfast on November 7, 2018, in Haverhill, MA. Aguilar, who serves as executive director of legislative affairs, will provide an update about a new legislative initiative proposed by the Association to advocate for federal funding support for collaborations between Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) and Hispanic-Serving School Districts (HSSDs).

The proposed legislative initiative, titled the PK-12 and Higher Ed Collaboration, would create a new Part C under Title V of the HigherEducation Act for a grant program to support partnerships and collaboration between HSIs and HSSDs that educate the majority of Hispanic students. HACU has proposed that $150 million be authorized in order to create the program.

Aguilar will also speak about National Science Foundation’s HSI Program and provide a policy update on issues impacting HSIs during a webinar hosted by Science Foundation Arizona on November 9, 2018.
