Félix Matos Rodríguez confirmed as chancellor of CUNY

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities applauds the Board of Trustees of The City University of New York for appointing Félix Matos Rodríguez, Ph.D., to serve as the Chancellor for the CUNY System, effective May 1, 2019.

Matos Rodríguez becomes the first Hispanic to hold the chancellor position at CUNY and replaces Vita C. Rabinowitz who was appointed as the Interim Chancellor as of June 1, 2018, succeeding Chancellor James B. Milliken, who stepped down from the positon.

Matos Rodríguez is the President of Queens College, a HACU member institution. He has served as president of Queens College since August 28, 2014.

"Dr. Félix Matos Rodríguez is a proven leader committed to student success and we congratulate him on being selected to serve as Chancellor of The City University of New York System," said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores.

Having served as president of Eugenio María de Hostos Community College/CUNY prior to joining Queens College, Matos Rodríguez is one of the few educators in the United States who has served as president of both baccalaureate and community college institutions.

In addition to Dr. Matos Rodríguez extensive background in higher education, he is a member of HACU’s Governing Board, where he serves as chairman of the board.

A cum laude graduate in Latin American Studies from Yale University, Matos Rodríguez received his PhD in history from Columbia University.
