Deloitte and HACU offer up to $10,000 award for accounting students

Deloitte LLP and the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities have once again partnered to offer the Jorge Caballero Student Leadership Award of $10,000 for accounting majors demonstrating leadership qualities through academics and community involvement. Students that attend a four-year, HACU-member institution have until Sept. 19, 11:59 p.m. CST to apply.

Applicants that demonstrate a strong interest in future employment with Deloitte are highly encouraged to apply. As part of the leadership award, applicants will also be considered for a paid internship with Deloitte.

The student selected will also receive a scholarship to attend HACU's 33rd Annual Conference, Oct. 5-7, 2019, in Chicago, Illinois. The student will attend the HACU ¡Adelante! Leadership Institute (Student Track) and will be recognized during the conference.

The eligibility requirements for the award are:

  • Accounting major with definitive plans to meet the 150 hour requirement for obtaining CPA Certification
  • A minimum GPA of 3.3
  • Enrolled full-time in a four-year HACU-member institution
  • Sophomore or junior classification graduating between 2022-2023
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Three short essay responses
An online application must be submitted with supporting documents, including spring 2019 official transcript, a HACU form for fall 2019 enrollment verification; Resume (must include GPA and graduation date); and responses to the following three questions in an essay format:
  1. In 200 words or less, discuss three significant obstacles you have overcome in pursuit of your education.
  2. In 200 words or less, provide examples of your leadership as it pertains to community or school related events.
  3. In 100 words or less, describe your potential interest in Deloitte.
