The U.S. Department of Education recently announced that 43 Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) will receive more than $24 million in new awards during the first funding year to strengthen and expand educational opportunities for Hispanic and low-income students. The Developing HSI Program (DHSI) provides grants to make college more attainable for Hispanic students and allows institutions to enhance their academic offerings, program quality and institutional stability. The grants assist schools in furthering educational opportunities for students through faculty development, curriculum development, academic tutoring and mentoring, and other services.

This year, 223 grant applications were received. The maximum award size per grant award is $600,000 per year for a period of 5 years. Total funding for new awards was $123,438,285 over 5 years.
