HACU and ASA partner on Ascending Leaders Forum at University of Houston

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities and American Student Assistance welcomed approximately 500 students to the Ascending Leaders Forums, on Nov. 20, 2019, at the University of Houston. This event is the first of five Ascending Leaders Forums to be held at Hispanic-Serving Institutions during the 2019-2020 academic year. The initiative serves to increase staff diversity in senior leadership positions at colleges and universities.

Area high schools participating at the University of Houston include:

  • Channelview High School
  • Dulles High School
  • Elkins High School
  • Galveston Ball High School
  • George Bush High School
  • Marshall High School
  • Ridge Point High School
  • Travis High School
  • Willow Ridge High

The one-day Forums are designed for high school students to gain a better understanding of career opportunities available at colleges and universities, beyond traditional teaching. Students will hear from presenters, meet with representatives from admissions, financial aid and career services offices, and meet college students to learn about student life. A campus tour will be included.

HACU and ASA are partnering with the following institutions for events in 2020: California State University, San Bernardino; New Jersey City University; Queens College and The University of Arizona.  Students from area Hispanic-Serving School Districts are among the participants of the Ascending Leaders Forums.

HACU has coordinated university tours for high school students at member institutions throughout the country for the past 10 years to raise college awareness among first-generation students and empower them to achieve post-secondary access and success.
