HACU fellow, Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval, appointed president of California State University, Fresno

SAN ANTONIO - The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities is pleased to announce the appointment of a fellow from its Leadership Academy/ La Academia de Liderazgo to university president.

The California State University (CSU) Board of Trustees has appointed Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval, Ph.D., to serve as the ninth president of California State University, Fresno. He currently serves as interim president of Fresno State. Jiménez-Sandoval will immediately assume the campus presidency.

Prior to serving as interim president, Jiménez-Sandoval was Fresno’s provost and vice president of academic affairs and served as the university's chief academic officer.

“HACU applauds the selection of Dr. Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval as the next President of CSU Fresno,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores. “He is not only imminently qualified, having spent over two decades in higher education, but, as an immigrant himself, will serve as a role model by showing students that much can be achieved through education.”

Jiménez-Sandoval received his doctorate from the University of California, Irvine and has a professional certificate from Cornell University’s School of Critical Theory. He is a fellow of the 2019-2020 inaugural cohort of HACU’s Leadership Academy/La Academia de Liderazgo, a one-year program designed to prepare the next generation of culturally diverse leaders for executive and senior level positions in higher education. California State University, Fresno is a founding institution of the program.
