HACU National Internship Program bids farewell to summer interns with virtual ceremony

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities bid farewell to its 2021 summer interns with a virtual ceremony on Aug. 12, 2021. The participants were undergraduate and graduate students who served internships with federal agencies across the country, as part of the HACU National Internship Program.

 

HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores, the HNIP staff gave some remarks about the internship program. Kerrian Reynolds Alvarenga, former HNIP intern, spoke about her internship experience at the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. She advised interns to plan their career paths but be open to detours, find their niche and be proud of it. Six current interns were also given the opportunity to speak about their summer internship experiences.

Over 175 students participated in these internships for a total of 10 weeks, as part of HACU’s National Internship Program. The following agencies in the Washington, D.C., metro area and field offices throughout the country provided the internships opportunities:

  • Library of Congress
  • National Agricultural Statistics Service - NASS
  • National Credit Union Administration - NCUA
  • National Institute of Food and Agriculture - NIFA
  • National Science Foundation - NSF
  • Office of the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights - ASCR
  • Office of the Comptroller of the Currency
  • Office of the Director - OD
  • Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation - PBGC
  • Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration - SAMHSA
  • U.S. Agency for International Development – USAID
  • U.S. Census Bureau

HACU is accepting applications for the 2022 spring internship session. Internship dates are Jan. 10-April 23, 2022. Applications will be accepted until Oct. 29, 2021. Information about eligibility and online application is available here.
