"SAN ANTONIO, Texas — AT&T is awarding $50,000 to the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) 14th Annual Conference Changing the Landscape of Education: Hispanics in the New Century. The conference will be held November 4 through 7 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. As a premiere sponsor of the conference's student component, AT&T is providing students more opportunities to get a head start on their careers.

""We applaud HACU's vision and leadership in bringing together educators, policymakers and business leaders to strengthen education opportunities for Hispanic students,"" said Marilyn Reznick, Vice President of Education at the AT&T Foundation. ""We are especially pleased to support the student programs and activities at this year's annual conference; these young people will have a voice in shaping the future for Hispanics in education.""

HACU's conferences are renowned for delivering the most recent and innovative ideas in Hispanic higher education. The student component of the conference is offered to high school and college students who want to improve their future career opportunities. The conference is expected to draw more than 1,000 students and professionals from higher education, business and the federal, state and local governments. The goal of this unique forum is to bring these great minds together to share information and ideas which enhance the educational success of Hispanics.

""We are ecstatic that AT&T is on our team to provide great opportunities for students at our annual conference. This conference is an excellent time for higher education leaders to join forces and explore new ways to educate Hispanics, and as a bonus, the very students we are targeting have a chance of a lifetime to be in the middle of all the exchanges. We commend AT&T for being a leader in helping HACU champion Hispanic success in higher education,"" said Antonio R. Flores, Ph.D., HACU President and CEO.

AT&T has proven to be a true friend of HACU over the years. The telecommunications giant was instrumental in the funding success for HACU's National Capitol Forum this year.

A critical part of the conference's success lies in the hands of sponsors. Miller Brewing Company, The St. Paul Companies, Inc., The Ford Motor Company, SBC Communications, Inc., the University of New Mexico and McDonald's Corporation also have pledged their sponsorships.
