Applications being accepted for USDA FAS Agricultural Export Market Challenge

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities and the United States Department of Agriculture Foreign Agriculture Service have announced that applications are now being accepted for the 2022/2023 FAS Agricultural Export Market Challenge. This experiential learning opportunity is available to junior and senior year undergraduate students from minority-serving institutions with leaders and faculty from their institution serving as their team sponsors/mentors for the Challenge.

The Agricultural Export Market Challenge is an immersive learning experience using the case study method and role playing to simulate the work that FAS subject matter experts perform every day to increase export opportunities for U.S. food and agricultural products. The goal of the simulation is to help students accrue knowledge and skills across the disciplines of economics, diplomacy, scientific analysis, marketing, and trade policy.

The Challenge will take place online mid-semester in Spring 2023 over the course of four to six weeks from start to finish. There will be a kick-off session and a workshop during which student teams will present their work and hear from FAS officials. Deadline to submit expression of interest form is Dec. 2, 2022.

Funding Opportunity Webinar: Digital Learning Infrastructure and IT Modernization Pilot Program

Join The Department of Education on Thursday, November 3, 2022, 3:00-4:00 p.m. EST for a Digital Learning Infrastructure and IT Modernization Pilot Technical Assistance Workshop. You can join the webinar here.

The Digital Learning Infrastructure and IT Modernization Pilot provides grants to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Tribal Colleges or Universities (TCUs), and other eligible Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs) to support IT modernization, and to enable them to provide support and technical assistance to expand their digital learning infrastructure.

Deadline: November 25, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. EST

Estimate Available Funds: $3,895,200

• Contingent upon the availability of funds and the quality of applications, we may make additional awards in subsequent years from the list of unfunded applications from this competition. 

Estimated Range of Awards: $750,000 to $973,800

Estimated Average Size of Awards: $861,900

Maximum Award: $973,800

Estimated Number of Awards: 4

Project Period: 36 months

Engaging with Fulbright: A Virtual Workshop for HSIs

HACU is pleased to invite its members to an interactive workshop designed to help faculty and staff at Hispanic-Serving Institutions learn about resources and training that Fulbright provides. HSIs already involved with Fulbright or those looking to get started can register to attend the online workshop on November 7, 2022, from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. EST. The workshop panel will be moderated by HACU chief of staff David Mendez and include a panel of campus experts - faculty and administrators from this year’s Fulbright HSI Institutional Leaders - as they share best practices and tips on how to do more with Fulbright, including advising students, assisting faculty, and hosting Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants, Fulbright Scholars-in-Residence, Fulbright Foreign Students, Fulbright Visiting Scholars, and Fulbright Outreach Lecturing Fund visiting lecturers. They will also share suggestions on how to create or advocate for policies that are Fulbright-friendly and foster a Fulbright culture on your campus.

Prior to the workshop, all registrants will receive a video on “Fulbright Fundamentals” with an overview of the Fulbright Student and Scholar Programs to allow for the focus of the workshop to be on the discussion and Q&A with Fulbright Program Advisers, Fulbright Scholar Liaisons, and senior-level administrators.
