HACU statement on U.S. Department of Education Secretary Cardona Raise the Bar Remarks

SAN ANTONIO – The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities has released the following statement on U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona’s Raise the Bar Remarks delivered on January 24, 2023.  

HACU applauds Secretary Cardona for highlighting the need to raise the bar in education and leading the world in academic excellence, boldly improving learning conditions, and preparing our students for a world of global competitiveness.

“We join Secretary Cardona on his call to action to our elected officials to place our shared educational goals at the forefront,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores.

HACU supports fair and equitable funding for Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) initiatives, maximizing the Pell grant, student loan debt forgiveness, and providing HSI students with an essential pipeline to postsecondary education starting at the K-12 level, among other key priorities.

“We look forward to continuing our work to champion Hispanic success in higher education with Secretary Cardona and his staff,” added Flores.
