The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities has announced the agenda and speakers of its pre-conference 22nd Annual Latino Higher Education Leadership Institute taking place, Oct. 28, 2023, at the Hilton Chicago, in conjunction with HACU’s 37th Annual Conference. The one-day Institute will focus on vital skills and strategies for moving up the faculty and administrative ladders in higher education.
Speakers and presentations will focus on topics under the theme “Exploring Diverse and Inclusive Workforce Strategies that Lead to Organizational Success.” The Institute will include a morning keynote by Eric Castillo, Ph.D., associate vice chancellor of arts, culture, and community impact, Alamo Colleges District, and a lunch keynote address will be given by Juan Salgado, chancellor, City Colleges of Chicago.
Concurrent breakout sessions will focus on three topics, “Navigating Ever-Changing Leadership Challenges with Grace and Success,” led by Sofia Martinez Ramos, Ph.D., director, diversity and inclusion college of education, University of Arizona. “The DEI Pathway: Opportunities and Challenges,” led by Amalia Pallares, Ph.D., vice chancellor for diversity, equity and engagement, and professor of political science and Latin American and Latino studies, University of Illinois Chicago. “Developing Your Personal Brand in an Ever-Changing Landscape,” led by Alejandra Gamboa, manager, diversity and inclusion enterprise team, Fidelity.
An afternoon session by Francisco Leija, Margarita Colmenares, Vanessa Cobarrubias, and Adan Gonzalez will focus on the "White House Fellowship: America's premier leadership and service program," and provide information on the leadership and service program.
The Institute concludes with a Presidents' Panel that includes: Daniel López, Ph.D., president, Harold Washington College (Illinois); Milagros Peña, Ph.D., president, Purchase College (New York); Federico Zaragoza, Ph.D., president, College of Southern Nevada; and Jennifer Zellet, Ph.D., superintendent/president, Antelope Valley College (California).
