Seeking students for Design Your Future/Diseña Tu Futuro
Competition

San Antonio, TX - Five college students will have a chance to receive $1,000 to $5,000 in scholarships, show their design skills and also walk a fashion runway during a student track event at HACU’s 22nd Annual Conference in Denver, Colorado, Oct. 11-13, 2008. It's all part of the Design Your Future/Diseña Tu Futuro competition presented by HACU and Gap Inc. Students at HACU-member institutions enrolled in a fashion apparel design program may apply online. A suit design and supporting documentation must be submitted by the extended deadline of July 25, 2008.

The Design Your Future/Diseña Tu Futuro Competition is designed to provide college students at 27 HACU member institutions with majors in fashion apparel design the opportunity to build their portfolio as they continue their studies. Students that attend one of the following HACU-member institutions are eligible to enter this competition:

  • Baylor University
  • Chaffey College
  • City College of San Francisco
  • College of the Sequoias
  • Columbia College Chicago
  • El Camino College
  • El Centro College
  • El Paso Community College
  • Iowa State University
  • Long Beach City College
  • Los Angeles Trade Technical College
  • Meredith College
  • Michigan State University
  • Mt San Antonio College
  • Palomar College
  • Phoenix College
  • Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico-Ponce
  • San Joaquin Delta Community College
  • Santa Ana College
  • Santa Fe Community College
  • Santa Monica College
  • Texas Tech University
  • Texas Woman's University
  • University of North Texas
  • University of the Incarnate Word
  • Washington University in St Louis
  • Woodbury University

The competition will allow students to design a project within parameters which will assist them in their career development. Students will learn valuable skills in time management, designing within guidelines and presenting their work to an audience of their peers and professionals in the industry. This valuable experience will provide students exposure to a Fortune 500 corporation as they plot their career paths. Fashion design students at HACU-member institutions must complete an on-line application and submit a design of a job interview suit along with additional supporting documentation by July 25, 2008. Finalists will receive:

  • Scholarship awards ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • An article in a major Hispanic publication, highlighting their accomplishments along with photos from the final competition.
  • The five finalists will be notified the week of September 2, 2008.
