HACU Alumni encouraged to participate in the President’s Volunteer Service Awards

Volunteers across the nation are eligible to receive recognition from the President of the United States for their commitment to volunteering with the President’s Volunteer Service Awards. Created in 2003 by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation, the awards are given to more than 1.5 million individuals annually.

To aid in choosing deserving individuals to receive an award, the President’s Council partners with more than 28,000 Certifying Organizations, which now include HACU.  As an Official Certifying Organization, HACU will help to thank and honor Americans who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service.

With this appointment HACU will be recognizing alumni members for their volunteer services. HACU alumni include anyone who has participated in a HACU student program such as the HACU National Internship Program or the Annual Conference Student Track, or who has received a HACU scholarship. Click here for a list of HACU student programs.

Depending on volunteer hours earned over a 12-month period or over the course of a lifetime at home or abroad, award recipients can receive: an official President’s Volunteer Service Award lapel pin; a personalized certificate of achievement; a congratulatory letter from the President of the United States; and a letter from the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation.

HACU is now tracking alumni volunteer hours through the Washington, D.C., office. All HACU alumni are strongly encouraged to begin tracking their volunteer hours on the President’s Volunteer Service Awards website at www.presidentialserviceawards.gov.
