Miami welcomes HACU on the Road tour

On March 18, The HACU on the Road tour made a visit to Miami, Florida, to meet with local education leaders and supporters of Hispanic higher education. The meeting was hosted by St. Thomas University.

The meeting presented an opportunity to discuss the State of Hispanic higher education in Miami. The gathering began with a presentation from the Office of the Mayor of Miami-Dade County, Carlos Alvarez. HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores was presented with a “Distinguished Visitor” recognition for his visit to Miami. Msgr. Franklyn M. Casale, President of St. Thomas University, also presented HACU with a proclamation signed by the City of Miami Gardens Mayor Shirley Gibson declaring March 18, 2010 as “Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities Day.”

Flores believes increasing the understanding of Hispanic higher education at the local level will help to strengthen support for more equitable funding to increase Hispanic educational access and success across the nation and internationally.

The next HACU on the Road tour visit will be to San Bernardino, CA, on March 29, 2010, hosted by San Bernardino Community College District. On March 31, Texas Tech University will host the visit to Lubbock, TX.
