HNIP interns attend farewell reception

More than 200 individuals gathered for a farewell reception on Capitol Hill on Aug. 12 to celebrate the accomplishments of the summer participants of the HACU National Internship Program. The event was attended by representatives from federal

agencies that hosted HACU interns as well as HACU staff and members of the HACU Alumni Association (HAA) board.

In his keynote address, U.S. Department of Education Assistant Secretary for Postsecondary Education, Dr. Eduardo Ochoa congratulated the interns and reminded them that their accomplishments as an intern will take them far beyond their dreams.

Claudia Espinosa, a student at the University of California-San Diego who interned at the Library of Congress, and Juan Mendez, a student at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez who interned at Department of Commerce- Bureau of Census, shared what their participation in the HACU National Internship Program meant to them describing how they have grown individually and professionally over the past 10 weeks of the program.
