Scholarships available for students to attend West Point summer programs

Middle and high school students attending HACU-member Hispanic-Serving School Districts (HSSDs) are eligible to apply for scholarships to attend summer 2011 programs at the United States Military Academy at West Point.  Two scholarships to each of the programs will be awarded.

Each scholarship will cover round-trip transportation, including airfare or train and ground transportation to/from the airport or train station. To apply, HSSDs can submit the names of interested applicants, with the applicants’ contact information and a brief paragraph (250 words or less) from the participants expressing why they wish to participate in the program.  Submissions must be sent to jmorales@hacu.net by Friday, March 18.

For middle school students: 2011 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) camp, May 24-27

  • Open to seventh and eighth grade students
  • Designed for students interested in any of the STEM fields and also interested in attending the United States Military Academy
  • Potential applicants should be U.S. citizens, Hispanic, have an excellent academic record and be in good academic standing

For high school students: 2011 Summer Leaders Seminar (SLS) (offers two sessions: Session I, May 28-June 3 and Session II, June 4-10)

  • Open to 11th grade students (rising seniors)
  • Scholarships apply to either session
  • Offers concentrated week of academic, athletic, military and social experiences
  • Potential applicants should be U.S. citizens, Hispanic and have a GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Applicants need to submit a copy of their PSAT and SAT/ACT scores
