HACU Town Hall to focus on creating opportunities for Hispanics through media and education
Celebrity speakers Cheech Marin, Diane Guerrero will be joining David Villarino Gonzalez and host Rick Najera for HACU Town Hall presentation by Latino Thought Makers "Latinos are the Solution, Not the Problem: How Latinos in Media and Education Are Changing the Narrative and Creating Opportunities Now More than Ever." The Town Hall takes place Monday, Oct. 30 and is part of the HACU Conference. Flyer
HACU to induct Milton A. Gordon and Eliseo Torres into Hall of Champions
The 2017 inductees into the HACU Hall of Champions will be the late Milton A. Gordon, former president of California State University, Fullerton, and Eliseo Torres, vice president for Student Affairs at the University of New Mexico. See PDF for all Honorees.
Five honorees to receive awards at HACU Annual Conference
HACU will present its President's Awards of Excellence at the Annual Conference including the Outstanding HACU Member Award to New Jersey City University. Honorees to be recognized for their service include: The Honorable Gonzalo P. Curiel; The Honorable Susan Davis; William V. Flores, Ph.D.; Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). See PDF for all Honorees.
International Plenary to highlight international education and prosperity
As part of HACU's Annual Conference, the International Plenary: “International Education as a Key Driver of Western Hemispheric Prosperity,” on Monday, Oct. 30, will be moderated by Fernando León Garcia, Ph.D. and include speakers Francisco "Paco" Palmieri, Salvador Malo Alvarez, Ph.D., and Román Macaya Hayes. Eligible accounting students have until Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, 5 p.m. central time to submit an application for The Jorge Caballero Student Leadership Award of up to $10,000, to be presented at HACU's Annual Conference. More>>
HACU/Solution Generation to award a $10,000 Leadership in Climate Change Awareness Award to an institution
HACU-member institutions with innovative and effective outreach efforts in climate and sustainability solutions on their campus and broader community have until Sept. 18, 2017, 5 p.m. EST to apply for a $10,000 award to be presented to a single institution at HACU’s Annual Conference. More>>
HACU’s PreK-12/Higher Education Collaboration Symposium
HACU will host a one-day Third PreK-12/Higher Education Collaboration Symposium as a pre-conference event on Oct. 28 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. Topics of discussion will be on student engagement, expanding diversity in the teacher pool, pathways for students to restart their education and more. More>>
HACU’s Latino Higher Education Leadership Institute
A keynote address on “System and Campus Leadership on DREAMer and DACA Students” given by Eloy Ortiz Oakley, chancellor of California Community Colleges, will open the 16th Annual Latino Higher Education Leadership Institute and follow with various presentations. The pre-conference event takes place Oct. 28 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. More>>

HACU hosts its first Trustees’ Forum
The inaugural Trustees’ Forum on October 31, 2017, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in San Diego, Calif., will focus on collaboration strategies for advocacy efforts at the state and federal level, specifically for trustees who engage in advocacy on behalf of the Hispanic-Serving Institutions they serve.
