HACU member campuses win FY 2004 defense grants
The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities applauds the award of FY 2004 U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) grants to 11 HACU member colleges and universities in
HACU member and associate member FY 2004 grant recipients for new funding from the DoD Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority Institutions Infrastructure Support Program are:
These infrastructure and research grants are directly assisting our Hispanic higher education community to address the under-representation of Hispanics in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. These grants are enhancing the research and infrastructure capacity of historically under-funded HSIs.
The DoD announced the award of 25 merit grants totaling $6.5 million to a total of 21 Hispanic-Serving and other Minority-Serving Institutions for FY 2004 in scientific disciplines critical to national security and the DoD. The Army Research Office will award 12 equipment grants ranging from $50,000 to $200,000 and 13 research grants ranging from $300,000 to $500,000. Specific amounts will be negotiated with grant recipients this summer.
HACU is seeking substantial increases in future DoD funding for research and infrastructure support for HACU Member and Associate Member Institutions for FY 2005 and within the pending five-year reauthorization of the Higher Education Act.
