Member Advisory--June 25, 2007
We were notified today by the Department of Education that the publication of the Title V, Developing Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) Program Closing Date Notice is anticipated in the Federal Register “shortly.” (View the letter from Acting Assistant Secretary James F. Manning: /images/hacu/govrel/DEd response T-V delay.062507.pdf. See HACU's June 4, 2007 letter to Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings: /images/hacu/govrel/spellings-june4.final.pdf.)
In the letter, Assistant Secretary Manning assured us that “eligible applicants will be afforded sufficient time in preparing and submitting an application.” However, he then advised that “Potential applicants should not wait until the official notification is published . . . . The selection criteria governing the review of proposals have not changed . . . .”
The 2006 application information is archived on the Department of Education Web site at: http://www.ed.gov/programs/idueshsi/applicant.html.
We have heard unofficially, through other channels, that the publication of the announcement may take place later this week.
