The U.S. Department of State's Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program will soon open its online application for students participating in credit-bearing study abroad programs and international internships during the summer 2019 and fall/academic year 2019-20 terms.  The Gilman Scholarship Program is an undergraduate grant program for U.S. citizens of limited financial means to enable them to study abroad, thereby internationalizing their outlook and better preparing them to thrive in the global economy. The Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program provides short-term seminars abroad for U.S. educators in the social sciences and humanities to improve their understanding and knowledge of the peoples and cultures of other countries. Each seminar features educational lectures and activities specifically designed for the group, including visits to local schools and organizations, meetings with teachers and students, and visits to cultural sites. The Institute of International Education (IIE) has released the findings of a new study on graduate student study abroad opportunities, entitled Who’s Counting?: Understanding the Landscape of Graduate Learning Overseas. This report is the result of the first national survey of U.S. higher education institutions focusing on graduate student mobility and provides insights into the graduate study abroad landscape and the need for U.S. institutions to build greater capacity to collect graduate student mobility data. It is also the first report in a three-year Graduate Learning Overseas (GLO) research study that began in 2017 and is implemented by the Institute of International Education with support from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of International and Foreign Language Education.  For more information, please click here. (Posted October 24, 2019)

The Capacity Building Program for U.S. Study Abroad is a program of the U.S Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, USA Study Abroad branch with funding provided by the United States Government and supported in its implementation by World Learning. Course Development Stipends for Russia, Eastern Europe, and Eurasia. Through funding from the US Department of Education, the Title VI National Resource Centers (NRCs) for Russia/Eastern Europe at the Center for Russian and East European Studies/University of Pittsburgh, the Center for Slavic and East European Studies/Ohio State University, the Inner Asian and Uralic National Resource Center/Indiana University, the Russian and East European Institute/Indiana University and the Institute of Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies/University of California will jointly award stipends to faculty at community colleges and minority-serving institutions to develop and incorporate greater content about Russia, Eastern Europe, and Eurasia into the curricula of the institutions at which they teach. Global Learning Semesters (GLS) - GLS offers HACU-member institutions the excellent AbroadOffice software that is now being used by over twenty universities to administer their study abroad programs.  AbroadOffice is a FREE software service provided by Global Semesters as a capacity-building endeavor to help advance the field of study abroad. AbroadOffice was initially developed during a joint initiative between HACU (the Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities) and Global Semesters with the objective of promoting study abroad for Hispanic students. This scholarship is open to current full-time students enrolled at Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) that are members of the Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities (HACU). SAS will select one HSI/HACU scholar for each voyage to receive a $10,000 grant to be used towards SAS program fees. Scholars will be required to video blog after each port throughout their voyage to share their in-port and shipboard experiences with future voyagers and the SAS community! INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ADVANCEMENT AWARDS. Website: www.semesteratsea.orgThis scholarship ($1,500 - $10,000) is intended to help international students who study outside of the US. This aid is awarded based on academic achievement, leadership experience, and financial need. The HACU-AIFS Scholarship is available for outstanding Hispanic students attending a HACU-member institution. Scholarships cover 50% of the AIFS all-inclusive program fee. Students must meet all standard AIFS eligibility requirements. Application, essay and other required documents must be submitted by March 1 for the summer session. April 15 for academic year/fall quarter/fall semester, and Sept. 15 for spring quarter/spring semester. The World Education Research Association (WERA) is an association of major national, regional, and specialty education research associations dedicated to sharing scholarship, developing networks, and mutually supporting capacity building. The U.S. Department of State, along with Partners of the Americas (Partners) and NAFSA: Association of International Educators, announce the launch today of a new Innovation Fund grant competition to create higher education institutional partnerships between Mexico and the United States.  The Mary Street Jenkins Foundation Innovation Competition is supported through a generous contribution from the Jenkins Foundation.  The Foundation’s grants have benefited Mexico’s youth establishing thousands of scholarships, schools, and sports centers, and the quality of life in the state of Puebla through the development of rural clinics and hospitals, as well as the provision of clean drinking water and public services in rural communities.   Application Period: October 9, 2018 – January 31, 2019.  For more information, please click here. SIELE is the International Spanish Language Evaluation Service which certifies electronically the command of the Spanish language. SIELE is developed by the Instituto Cervantes, the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, the Universidad de Salamanca and the Universidad de Buenos Aires. Students and professionals take this examination in order to obtain a certification that will strengthen their academic and professional profile. SIELE is managed by Telefónica Educación Digital.
