HSIs to meet at HACU’s Capitol Forum for its 20th year gathering

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) will host its 20th National Capitol Forum on Hispanic higher education in Washington, D.C., March 23-24, 2015, to shape and promote an agenda for Congress and the country.

Free pre-conference sessions from 8:30 - 11:45 a.m. include a U.S. Department of Agriculture Listening Session; a U.S. Department of Education Funding Session; and a Federal Funding Opportunities Workshop. A post-session Student Advocacy 101 will also be offered. 

The Capitol Forum will kick off at noon on Monday, March 23, after the pre-conference sessions. The opening  plenary, "20 Years of HSI Funding: Lessons Learned and Future Steps," will include panelists: Ted Mitchell, Under Secretary, U.S. Department of Education; Joan Ferrini-Mundy, Assistant Director of the National Science Foundation; and  Mark Hugo Lopez, Director of Hispanic Research, Pew Research Center. On the second day of the Capitol Forum, participants will make visits to Capitol Hill coordinated by the HACU government relations office in Washington, D.C. Among the state delegation visits are institutions from Arizona, California, Colorado, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Puerto Rico, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and West Virginia. Onsite registration will be available on March 23, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., and on March 24, 8 a.m. – noon, at the Washington Marriott at Metro Center, 775 12th Street NW, Washington, DC  20005.
