More than 600 area high school students from the San Antonio area were those participating in the 15th Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU)/U.S. Army University Tour at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) on Sept. 25, 27-29, 2017.
The HACU/U.S. Army University Tour program provides students an opportunity to participate - some for the first time - in campus tours to learn more about pathways to higher education. In addition to a daily tour of the university campus, students attended workshops on admission, financial aid, campus resources and educational opportunities offered through the U.S. Army. Students also attended a panel presentation given by first year and second year university students, and cadets to learn about the university experience.
The HACU/U.S. Army University Tour, coordinated with UTSA, included participation from students from these San Antonio area high schools:
A professional development event brought together high school counselors and pre-college advisors to USTA for a Counselors’ Seminar on Sept. 26. The Seminar included sessions on the following topics: Resources and Educational Opportunities by U.S. Army, The Effect of Financial Aid Changes on The Role of High School Counselors and Cultural Competency: Supporting Our Students through Validation and Advocacy.
The next HACU/U.S. Army University Tour visit will be held at California State University, Fullerton Feb. 5-9, 2018. A Counselors’ Seminar will also be offered.
