Senate Judiciary Subcommittee to hold first hearing on the DREAM Act

The Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees and Border Security will hold its first ever hearing on the DREAM Act on Tuesday, June 28 at 10:00 am EDT. The hearing will be held in room 226 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building in Washington, DC. For those not in Washington who would like to view the hearing, there will be a live webcast on the Senate Judiciary Committee website at http://www.judiciary.senate.gov/.

Senator Durbin said he is conducting the hearing to discuss how the DREAM Act will make our country stronger. The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) strongly applauds the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees and Border Security for holding this hearing to gather more information about the DREAM Act.

HACU has taken a strong position in advocating for the DREAM Act for many years, especially last year when the legislation passed in the House but failed to win a filibuster-proof supermajority in the Senate. The DREAM Act provides a path to legal resident status for undocumented immigrants up to the age of 35 and allows them to have access to benefits, including a college education option.
