HACU Statement by President and CEO Antonio R. Flores on America’s College Promise Act

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) announced its support for the America’s College Promise Act, introduced July 8, 2015, by Congressman Robert Scott (D-VA). The bill would make it possible for more students to attend community college by removing the financial barrier that many students face.

“The bill recognizes the important role that Minority-Serving Institutions play in providing higher education access and success for many low-income and first-generation students, and will help ameliorate the financial burden of many students who may not otherwise be able to attend college,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores.

HACU represents more than 450 colleges and universities committed to Hispanic higher education success in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Latin America and Spain, including the nation’s 409 Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs). HACU’s member institutions in the U.S. are home to more than two-thirds of all enrolled Hispanic college students, the nation’s youngest and fastest-growing population. The organization is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, and maintains a Western Regional Office in Sacramento, California as well as an office in Washington, D.C.
