HACU president and CEO addresses California State Assembly Budget Subcommittee

Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) President and CEO Antonio R. Flores presented the Higher Education Funding Proposal before the California State Assembly Budget Subcommittee 2 on Education Finance on March 9, 2017. Joining Flores was Maria Alvarez, HACU's executive director of Western State Legislative Affairs as well as Hans Johnson, center director and senior fellow of the Public Policy Institute of California, and Ralph Washington Jr., president of the University of California Student Association.

The proposal will provide a funding formula for the public higher education segments to address the achievement gap that persists among underrepresented students. Additional components of the proposal include targeted support services and programs for underrepresented students and accountability measures to ensure the public higher education segments meet their targeted goals. HACU's proposal would help ensure that higher education funding meets current student population needs, and build the systems and supports necessary to ensure that all students who enroll in college complete their degrees.
