"SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The CBS Foundation awarded the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) a $30,000 grant to establish a national scholarship program for college students interested in pursuing broadcast industry careers.

""We are honored that a television network with such prestige and worldwide impact is directing its corporate philanthropy toward members of our nation's youngest and fastest growing minority population,"" said HACU President Antonio R. Flores. ""We applaud the CBS Foundation for its support of our students and for its long record of support for diversity in the broadcast industry.""

HACU represents more than 270 colleges and universities in 16 states and Puerto Rico that together are home to more than two-thirds of all U.S. Hispanic higher education students. HACU also boasts a fast-growing international history of providing scholarship support to minority and economically disadvantaged college students.

The HACU/CBS Foundation Scholarship Award will award scholarships to full-time juniors and seniors at HACU-member colleges and universities in California, Florida, New York or Texas. To qualify, students must meet grade requirements, prove financial need and major in journalism, radio/television or business or other broadcast industry-related majors. The deadline for application is January 26, 2001.
