HACU issues a call-for-action on “Educators Week of Action” to support Dreamers

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities has issued a call for action on National Call-In Day in support of Dreamers and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders. The National Call-In Day is part of the “Educators Week of Action,” where young people and educators from across the country come together to stand in solidarity with immigrants and demand that Congress pass permanent protections for Dreamers and those with TPS through legislation like the American Dream and Promise Act of 2019 (H.R.6).

The bill would allow as many as 2.5 million people to apply for legal status and put them on a path that could ultimately lead to US citizenship. H.R. 6 combines the longstanding DREAM Act with a proposal to allow some immigrants with temporary humanitarian protections to apply for permanent legal status. For additional information on the bill, visit the HACU Advocacy Center.

Polls indicate that the vast majority of Americans sympathize with the plight of the Dreamers and support legislation that would allow them to remain legally in the U.S. Help make the American Dream a reality for these young people who already contribute to our communities and economy and will have enormously more to offer if given the opportunity.

The fate of Dreamers and TPS holders lies squarely in the hands of Congress. Take Action to ask Congress to pass a permanent legislative solution.
