HACU 19th Annual Latino Higher Education Leadership Institute speakers announced

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities has announced the agenda of its 19th Annual Latino Higher Education Leadership Institute, pre-conference event of HACU’s Virtual 34th Annual Conference taking place Oct. 21, 2020. The theme of the institute is “Developing Leadership from a Place of Strength.”

The one-day Institute for faculty, staff and administrators will focus on strategies for moving up the faculty and administrative ladders in higher education.

  

The morning speakers will include a presentation: "Leading from a Place of Strength. The case for Strength Finders on a College or University Campus, " by Keith Hall Ed.D., vice president, diversity and inclusion, Azusa Pacific University.

Roundtable sessions will explore the three key skills needed for higher education leaders to excel and advance up the ranks.

Concurrent Roundtable Workshops will include the following:

  • "Using online capabilities to increase student access and success," facilitated by Maria Anguiano, senior vice president for strategy, Arizona State University
  • "Chief Diversity Officers in Higher Education - Strengthening the Entire Campus," facilitated by Elizabeth Ortiz, Ed.D., vice president for institutional diversity and equity, DePaul University
  • “Employee Resource Groups – Internal Resource Building,” facilitated by Cyndia Morales Muñiz, Ed.D., director of HSI culture and partnerships, University of Central Florida

The afternoon Keynote Speaker will be Marla Franco, Ph.D., who will speak about "Strengthening your own HSI Leadership." Franco is the assistant vice provost for Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) Initiatives at the University of Arizona.

Concluding the day will be a Presidents' Panel, and will include Daniel Lopez, Jr., Ph.D., president of Harold Washington College; Irma Becerra Fernandez, Ph.D., president of Marymount University; Shirley M. Collado, Ph.D., president of Ithaca College and Tomás Morales, Ph.D.,president of California State University, San Bernardino.

The 19th Annual Latino Higher Education Leadership Institute, is a pre-conference event of HACU's 34th Annual Conference, Oct. 26–28, 2020.
