San Antonio, Texas – The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities is pleased to announce that Richard Montez has been named the 2020 Coors Light Líder of the Year. The Coors Light recognition follows a month-long online public voting campaign among 12 finalists vying for a chance to win a grant for their organization. With the selection of Montez, a $25,000 grant will be awarded to HACU to implement a community leadership project with Coors Light.

Montez has served as the director of member services at HACU since July 2017. His work at the Association includes being involved with various leadership programs and initiatives. He is a native of San Antonio, Texas, where he is an active community leader. He serves as board chair at Inner City Development, Inc., a nonprofit that serves the most economically marginalized neighborhood in Bexar County. He earned a bachelor’s degree from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio.

“We congratulate Richard Montez on being named the 2020 Líder of the Year and commend Coors Light for recognizing emerging leaders through their Líderes program, which spotlights the accomplishments of Hispanic leaders across the country,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores. “HACU looks forward to working along with Coors Light to implement a program that will benefit and impact college students in our community.”

The Coors Light Líderes are selected for their leadership and desire to make a difference in their communities. The program aims to inspire the next generation of up-and-coming Latino leaders to empower their communities.

“I am thankful for the support of everyone who voted for me, including my family, colleagues, school friends, supporters from school districts and representatives from colleges and universities across the country. I am so humbled to be named the Coors Light Líder of the Year,” said Richard Montez. “I look forward to my continued engagement in forging collaborations that help amplify Latino voices nationwide.”

Since 2006, the Líderes program has raised awareness and highlighted the achievements of a diverse group of respected national and local leaders within the Hispanic community. For more information, please visit: www.CoorsLightLideres.com.
