HACU grant from Carnegie Corporation of New York to support 10 fellowships for the Leadership Academy/La Academia de Liderazgo

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) has been awarded a philanthropic grant from Carnegie Corporation of New York for its Leadership Academy/La Academia de Liderazgo, in support of 10 fellowships. The Leadership Academy prepares senior higher education administrators for top leadership roles at Hispanic-Serving Institutions, emerging HSIs and other institutions of higher learning. Through the Corporation’s grant, 10 individuals will receive fellowships to participate in the year-long program.

“We are grateful to Carnegie Corporation of New York for providing fellowships to support ten individuals who would not be able to participate without the assistance made possible through this grant,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores.

HACU believes it is crucial to prepare a diverse talent pool to lead institutions that are educating the fast-growing Hispanic student population, which is nearly 20 percent of the more than 19 million college students nationwide. According to Flores, this requires redoubling current efforts to identify and prepare a diverse talent pool from which search committees can select the leaders of their institutions.

Applicants selected to receive fellowships will participate in the fourth cohort of HACU's La Academia de Liderazgo. The first seminar will be held October 2022 in conjunction with HACU’s Annual Conference. The second seminar will be held in Washington, D.C., in April 2023, at HACU’s National Capitol Forum. The third seminar will take place at an international seminar to be held in the spring or summer of 2023. The fellowship will provide for the tuition costs for the program.

Applications will be accepted through March 25, 2022, and those selected to receive a fellowship will be notified by April 29. Applications and nominations can be made at https://www.hacu.net/leadershipacademy.
