U.S. Department of Education Releases New Guidance on HEERF (a)(2) Grant Funds

The U.S. Department of Education (DOE) on Monday released new guidance on HEERF (a)(2) grant funds related to new flexibilities for its use towards construction, renovation and real property projects that were included in the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2022.

The flexibilities only apply to HEERF (a)(2) grant recipients including Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities, Minority Serving Institutions, and Strengthening Institutions Program recipients and are limited to HEERF (a)(2) grant funds. The FAQs provide information about how HEERF (a)(2) institutions may use HEERF to cover construction and renovation and provides specific examples of how these colleges and universities might use this new source of funds.

The Office of Postsecondary Education will hold a series of webinars for the various communities detailing the application process and to answer additional questions on June 2, 7, 8, and 9, 2022. A registration link for the webinars will be sent directly to qualifying institutions at a future date.

U.S. Department of Education Opens Applications for CCAMPIS Grants

The U.S. Department of Education (DOE) has begun accepting grant applications for the Child Care Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) program. Applications are due on July 11, 2022.

CCAMPIS promotes student access to educational resources and opportunities, and seeks to increase postsecondary access, completion and enrollment success. The program supports 4-year grants to institutions of higher education to increase the participation of low-income parents in postsecondary education, through the provision of campus-based childcare services.

The Undergraduate Programs Division of the DOE’s Office of Postsecondary Education will host a webinar on Thursday, June 2 at 1:00 p.m. ET for prospective grant applicants outlining how to submit a grant application under the CCAMPIS program. NIFA to Host Webinar on Youth Innovators Empowering Agriculture Across America (YEA)

On Friday, June 3 at 1:30pm CDT, the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) will host a webinar to discuss the Youth Innovators Empowering Agriculture Across America (YEA) Program Area Priority, which has two new budget requests:

• Youth Innovators Empowering Agriculture Across America (YEA) project budgets must not exceed $7,850,000 total per project for project periods of four or five years (60 months); and
• Youth Innovators Empowering Agriculture Across America Coordination Network (YEA-CN) project budgets must not exceed $5,000,000 total per project for project periods of four or five years (60 months).

The YEA program seeks projects supporting one or more of the six AFRI Farm Bill priorities, as well as one or more of the USDA priorities of addressing climate change via climate-smart agriculture and forestry; advancing racial justice, equity and opportunity; creating more and better market opportunities; tackling food and nutrition insecurity; and promoting workforce development.

U.S. Department of Education Has Opens Grant Competitions for the Higher Education Act Title V Programs

The U.S. Department of Education (DOE) has begun accepting applications for new awards for fiscal year (FY) 2022 for the Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (DHSI) Program. Applications are due on June 6, 2022 at 11:59 PM ET.

The DHSI Program provides grants to assist Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) with expanding educational opportunities and improving the academic attainment of Hispanic students. DHSI program grants enable HSIs to expand and enhance the academic offerings, program and faculty quality, and institutional stability of colleges and universities that are educating the majority of Hispanic college students and helping large numbers of other low-income individuals earn postsecondary degrees.
