HACU on the Road visits Hudson County Community College in New Jersey

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities President and CEO Antonio R. Flores and staff were in Jersey City, New Jersey on May 4, 2023, as part of its HACU on the Road tour. Hudson County Community College hosted the event on their campus for invited participants. The event brought together approximately 75 participants, including members of the HCCC community, leaders of Hispanic-Serving Institutions and State leaders from the surrounding area.

HCCC Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Yeurys Pujols gave opening remarks, followed by a welcome from HCCC President Christopher M. Reber Ph.D. HACU President Flores discussed the state of Hispanic higher education, priority issues for Hispanic-Serving Institutions, and HACU programs and initiatives. HCCC students Leandra Cancel, Justin Mosqueda and Dubravka Kos shared experiences attending HACU’s Annual Conference and spoke to attendees.

A Town Hall panel discussion followed the event, featuring HACU President Flores, HCCC President Reber, HCCC Latino Advisory Council Wendy Martinez, and HCCC Assistant Professor Gilda Reyes. A media roundtable was also held with representatives from local media outlets.

HACU on the Road is an initiative designed to promote national and international dialogue about the state of Hispanic higher education among chancellors, presidents of colleges and universities, superintendents of Hispanic-Serving School Districts, corporate leaders, and other supporters of Hispanic higher education.
