Educational leaders join HACU on visit to Spain

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities’ President and CEO Antonio R. Flores will be in Spain on June 5-9, 2023, visiting universities in Madrid, Andalusia, Valencia and Castile through a partnership with the Internationalization of Spanish Higher Education (Servicio Español para la Internacionalización de la Educación) and the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior).

During the tour, HACU staff will meet with faculty members from each one of the universities in the different regions of Spain to discuss collaborations in the study of Spanish, dual degrees, and Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL).

Approximately 16 faculty, staff and administrators from the following HACU-member institutions will be part of the academic trip that include visits to the University of Córdoba, the University of Salamanca and the University CEU Cardenal Herrera:

  • ILAIS - The Catholic University of America
  • Montclair State University
  • Northern Illinois University
  • St. Augustine College
  • Texas State University
  • The University of Arizona

  • University of Houston
  • Wichita State University

Other topics to be covered during the trip include:

  • HACU and the U.S. higher education system.
  • The Spanish university system and Erasmus plus funding opportunities for cooperation.
  • Spain insights on diversification and student interest in an emerging global study destination.
  • The internationalization strategy of the University of Córdoba; the University of Salamanca; and the Foundation CEU San Pablo
  • The Spanish Rector’s Conference (CRUE) and its strategy for the internationalization of universities.
  • COIL – Collaborative Online International Learning. Case study. The experience of CEU Cardenal Herrera University hosting last IVEC.

Following the visits to the institutions, a reception hosted by U.S. Ambassador to Spain Julissa Reynoso at the U.S. Embassy in Madrid will be held with Spanish universities and corporations interested in international collaboration.
