HACU-Member Institutions receive NextGen program funding

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities member institutions were among those awarded funding “From Learning to Leading: Cultivating the Next Generation of Diverse Food and Agriculture Professionals” or NextGen program funding, designed to build and sustain the next generation of the food, agriculture, natural resources and human sciences professionals, including the future U.S. Department of Agriculture workforce.

The funding targets Hispanic-Serving Institutions, 1890 institutions, 1994 institutions, Alaska Native-serving institutions and Native Hawaiian-serving institutions, and other institutions of higher education located in the U.S. territories.

The inaugural program funding by the USDA is a $262.5 million investment in institutions of higher education supporting student scholarship projects, experiential learning projects, and outreach and engagement projects. Each project will be funded for a period of five years. Seventeen HACU-member institutions were among the 33 projects receiving funding, members listed below:

  • Our Lady of the Lake University (HSI)
  • San Diego State University (HSI)
  • St. Edward's University (HSI)
  • Texas A&M University-Kingsville (HSI)
  • Texas State University (HSI)
  • The University of Texas at San Antonio (HSI)
  • University of California, Santa Cruz (HSI)
  • University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras (HSI)
