HACU to host its Inaugural Women’s Leadership Symposium, Oct. 27, in Chicago

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities will host a half-day, pre-conference Inaugural Women’s Leadership Symposium, Oct. 27, 2023, in Chicago, Ill. The Symposium will bring together women in higher education with women in executive leadership positions to dialogue and explore topics related to navigating work environments, building strategic networks, and preparing to assume executive roles in education or any other career field.

The sold-out event will be moderated by Liz Aquino, Ph.D., associate dean for academic affairs, College of Nursing, University of Illinois Chicago. A lunch will be followed by the presentation, “Celebrando: Celebrating Our Unique Experiences,” by Emma Grace Hernández Flores, Ph.D., president, Universidad de Iberoamérica and Devorah Lieberman, Ph.D., president, University of La Verne.

The session, “Valiente: Building Strength and Authenticity,” will be presented by Adela de la Torre, Ph.D., president, San Diego State University and Margaret McMenamin, Ed.D., president, Union College.

The session, “Navegando: Navigating Organizational Climate and Culture,” will be presented by Narcisa Polonio, Ed.D., senior executive search consultant, Greenwood Asher & Associates and Margaret Venable, Ph.D., former president, Dalton State College.

The session, “Conexión: Relationships, Mentorships, and Networking,” will be presented by Dania Matos, J.D., vice chancellor for equity and inclusion, University of California, Berkeley and Garnett Stokes, Ph.D., president, The University of New Mexico.

The concluding session, “Consejos: Wisdom and Advice from Women Leaders,” will be presented by Bea Joseph, Ed.D., vice chancellor of student success, Dallas Colleges and Debi Gaitan, vice president of student success, Northwest Vista College.

The Inaugural Women’s Leadership Symposium is a pre-conference event of HACU’s 37th Annual Conference taking place in Chicago, Ill., Oct. 28-30, 2023.
