HACU and Dominion Energy Summer Bridge Program with Colleges and Universities across the country

A representative from the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities was on the University of North Carolina at Pembroke campus on July 11, 2023, in Pembroke, North Carolina, visiting the Dominion Energy-sponsored Summer Bridge Program being held at select colleges and universities across the country and Puerto Rico.

A visit to Northern Virginia Community College took place on July 19, 2023, where students were given a presentation on HACU services, followed by a visit on July 20, 2023, to George Mason University.

A visit to Utah Valley University took place on August 3, 2023, where a representative from HACU was able to present to summer bridge participants about HACU student opportunities.

The program focuses on Dominion Energy's Building Hispanic Talent Initiative in partnership with HACU to increase Hispanic representation in STEM and energy fields through the Summer Bridge Programs. Eric Falcon, HACU program manager for STEM student success, gave a presentation on HACU student programs during the visit.

Students are given the opportunity to explore STEM careers and the energy industry, as well as acclimating to university campus life and the rigors of higher education coursework. Each student participated in college-level courses for college credit.

The University of North Carolina at Pembroke is one of seven schools selected to participate in the Summer Bridge Program:

  • Sampson Community College
  • University of Connecticut at Stamford
  • University of North Carolina at Pembroke
  • University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez
  • Utah Valley University
