HACU and Dominion Energy bids farewell to Summer Bridge Students with virtual ceremony

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities bid farewell to the students who participated in this year’s Dominion Energy Building Hispanic Talent Initiative Summer Bridge Programs with a virtual ceremony held on Aug. 11, 2023. The participants were high school students who were given the opportunity to explore STEM careers and the energy industry, as well as acclimate to university campus life and the rigors of higher education coursework. The Summer Bridge Programs were hosted at seven colleges and universities across the country.

Vice President of Intergovernmental Affairs at Dominion Energy Maria Tamburri gave a welcome address followed by students who gave testimonials on their experience in the Summer Bridge Program. HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores gave closing remarks and congratulated the students on their hard work over the summer.

Over 500 students served in the seven-week Summer Bridge Programs from over 130 different high schools. Every student who participated was awarded college credit for their courses, which included engineering, business, cyber technology, and biotechnology at a college level.

The seven schools selected to host these programs were:

  • George Mason University
  • Northern Virginia Community College
  • Sampson Community College
  • University of Connecticut at Stamford
  • University of North Carolina at Pembroke
  • University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez
  • Utah Valley University
